SCULPTURAL MOTIFS OF SOUTHEAST ASIA
These enigmatic stoneware sculptures depict the traditional cuisine and performing arts of Southeast Asia through unique shapes, colours and surface decorations.
The pieces entitled Wayang Kulit feature intricate motifs of Indonesian icons and resemble an abstract expressionist pair of puppets. Tapestry showcases meticulous, handcrafted surfaces inspired by ethnic heritage. While Landscape features two giant pots with red, white and blue markings which mimic the vertical and horizontal planes of a landscape seen from afar.
Lastly, a tall cylindrical structure and its rounder counterpart—crafted with densely layered epidermal veneer—evoke the Kueh Lapis, a traditional layered cake.
