These stoneware works by Singaporean sculptor Iskandar Jalil represent the cultural and natural heritage of Southeast Asia through their unique depictions of the scenery of the region, and of traditional performing arts and cuisines.
On the left, two giant pots with red, white, and blue markings are aptly christened "Landscape" for the decorations on their respective surfaces, which juxtapose the vertical and horizontal planes of a forested vista seen from afar.
In the middle, the “Tapestry" series features meticulously handcrafted surfaces, inspired by Southeast Asian heritage.
On the right, a tall cylindrical structure and its rounder counterpart bear the signature elements of master potter Jalil, with their densely layered epidermal veneers reminding travellers of “kueh lapis” a traditional Southeast Asian layered cake.
