Like lamp posts that guide us in darkness, the Lantern of Duty is an emblem of the unwavering resilience that defines Singapore and guided us through the Covid-19 pandemic. This artwork originates from the "Project Lionheart" exhibition which toured Singapore from October 2022 to January 2023, sharing stories of unity emerging from adversity.
Crafted by artist Lee Wei Lieh, this installation symbolises the essential workers, healthcare heroes, and everyday individuals who led us through uncertainty. The 33 meticulously handcrafted iridescent face masks reflect both external light and inner strength and emit a loving radiance. The Lantern of Duty serves as a reminder that hope and unity shine brightly, even in the most trying times.
